Video: Lewis Gordon Pugh - North Pole Challenge swim
“We stand at a critical point in the history of the planet and the steps which we take over the next few years will determine the future of the natural world and the sustainability of mankind.”
-Lewis Pugh
In order to bring attention to the melting polar ice cap and climate change issues, pioneer swimmer Lewis Gordon Pugh and his support team travelled to the North Pole in 2007 where, wearing only a bathing suit and cap for protection, Pugh braved -1.7◦ C Arctic water for a remarkable, inspiring and grueling 18 minutes and 50 seconds to swim a one kilometer stretch of the open, icy water. Pugh’s body temperate dropped over two degrees during the swim.
