Event: EnviroBLITZ!

Date:
Monday, October 14, 2013 - 08:45 to Friday, October 25, 2013 - 03:00
Event Description:

To ensure a strong start to the 2013/14 school year, we are kickstarting with enviroBLITZ - a series of workshops on various dates over the span of two weeks in October, hosted by various environmental organizations at all eight Burnaby high schools.

From a list of organizations, each high school has chosen two favourite workshops most relevant to their planned initiatives for the year. These two workshops will be presented at the school over one morning/afternoon, possibly in the gym or another common area. Specific dates will be determined and updated soon!

WHY?

  1. To heighten awareness about various sustainability issues. To be motivated and passionate, students have to know the facts and situations surrounding each issue, and understand what they are working towards and why they are using their time to be a part of the sustainability movement.
  2. To give students the skills for initiatives they may want to carry out throughout the year. Want to start a garden? Want to digitally document your actions? Get advice from those with a little more experience and have confidence when you set out to do what you wanna do.
  3. To make it more accessible to more students. As the workshops will happen at EVERY high school, no student has to travel to another school.
  4. To make it easier for students to meet others at their school. Presumably, students will work with those at their own school the most. This is an opportunity to form connections and a solid school team.
The school sustainability councils are the foundation for BYSN as a district network. Only with strong teams of passionate, informed youth at every school can we make lasting change in our community.

HOW CAN I ATTEND THESE WORKSHOPS?
Starting mid-September, there will be a sign-up sheet on the door of the Sustainability Council sponsor teacher's room. Whether you're super involved or just curious, we encourage you to come attend! Field trip forms will be distributed soon after.

WHAT IF I'M FROM ANOTHER DISTRICT?
If you are not a Burnaby student but are still interested, talk to your teachers to see if they will allow you to miss class!
