Event: Aquatic Toxicity Workshop 2012

Date:
Sunday, September 30, 2012 - 09:00 to Wednesday, October 3, 2012 - 16:00
Event Description:

The Aquatic Toxicity Workshop (ATW)

ATW is Canada's major annual meeting in the field of aquatic toxicology and related disciplines. It provides the opportunity to share information on current and emerging topics of regional, national and international importance related to water quality. Participants include students, academics, government scientists and regulators, environmental consultants and industry representatives.

The Aquatic Toxicity Workshop is held annually in a different region of Canada to draw a wider interest among ecotoxicologists, and gain a national perspective of current and emerging issues. These 3 day Workshops are traditionally held in the fall, and usually attended by 300-400 participants where 150-200 platform and poster papers are presented in either official languages.

Each workshop is hosted by a Local Organizing Committee on behalf on the ATW Board of Directors. Workshops are organized on a two-year planning schedule, where arrangements for the date and location are finalized during the first year, and program and other details finalized the following year. Groups interested in hosting a future workshop are required to submit a written proposal, and may contact an ATW Board member for additional information.

ATW became a registered Canadian corporation in 1984, and is administered by a Board of Directors. The Board is comprised of three and six long-term Directors, including the Continuity Chair, and three regular members that include the Chairs of the Organizing Committees of the current, previous and next workshops. Two graduate student representatives also serve on the Board of Directors. The Board provides guidance on issues that may affect the future direction of the workshop series, and serves in an advisory capacity to the Organizing Committees. Workshops are planned on a cost-recovery basis, with additional support from sponsorships. The theme of each workshop reflects the interests of the organizers. A standard operating procedure (SOP) exists to support Organizing Committees.

The success of Workshops has largely been due to attendees who have generously contributed their time in serving in various capacities. Further information about forthcoming Workshops, and general information about the Workshop series may be obtained from those listed under Contact.
